Geotechnical Engineering – for a stronger foundation

A study published in Jan 2021, suggests that approx. 8 percent of the world’s ground surface is on track to sink by 2040, making many parts of the world susceptible to subsidence or sinking.

The sinking of the ground is a huge problem for factories, warehouses, and many key industries from railways, and roads to FMCG. The root cause of ground settlement or sinking are twofold: one when the original foundation of a facility is built on unsuitable ground or soft soil and second when underground movement happens due to external factors such as ingress of water, mining activities, or nearby excavations.

In both cases the basic problem to fix is the low bearing capacity of the soft soils and stabilization of the ground to prevent sinking.
